Our Filming Experience!

Our Filming Experience!
During filming our Preliminary piece we were able to successfully create a match on action shot, and stick the 180 DEGREE rule. We managed to create some professional looking shots and were all very PLEASED with the outcome.
LESSONS LEARNT- during the first part of our filming we accidently taped over one or two shots which meant we had to re film the shots a few days after, the location and props are exactly the same but Emma is wearing slightly different clothing, BUT this shouldn’t affect our final film!

Now for editing

Location for our Prelim task!

This is the location we will be using when filing, it is a room in the college that represents the office

Type space needed for our film.

The view for the two shot..

where Emma will be sitting when we are filming.

this is the view from outside, where Emma will be filmed entering the room.

Our Script...

Teacher – Frankie

Student- Emma

Frankie- Hello Emma, so do you know why you are here?

Emma- err yesss…

Frankie- do you think this is appropriate behaviour for school?

Emma- I suppose not, but I didn’t mean for it to happen.

Frankie- See. You know. I know. So why did you do it? Just pure, mindless, teenage, vandalism?

Emma- Err…. *shrugs*

Frankie- Right. Well this is what I was talking about. Your attitude Emma is just disgraceful.

Emma- you told me to come after school to clean up my mess.

Frankie- Good, because it stank!

Emma- I’m sorry it just slipped out.

Frankie- And why was it that colour?

Emma- It had been in there for a while.

Frankie- That’s disgusting!!!

Emma- Chill out it was only a sandwich.

Frankie- Okay clean up your mess and then you are free to leave. Please reframe yourself from this in the future.

Shot Reverse Shot-

shot reverse shot explination.

This method is used alot in when filming pieces of dialouge and goes well with the 180 degree rule, the camrea will go from one character to the other and end on the first.

Match On Action

when there is a cut in the middle of any action or movement in the frame, the action must be kept continuous to avoid distrupting the story. for example, if someone opens a door, the action on the inside of the room must match with the person entering. if the action doesn't match, the sequence won't be continuous.

Moviemaking Techniques 180 Degree Rule

Here is an example of the 180 degree rule.

180 degree rule!

What we have discovered here is the role of the 180 degree rule - don't cross the line!
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT RULES IN EDITING!

It's important because it keeps continuity and flow in conversation. It also ensures that the spectator is not distracted by the reversal of characters.

the prelim task..

Your Task:

THIS TASK CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR COURSEWORK GRADE:

COURSEWORK REPRESENTS 50% OF THE AS LEVEL

The specification states that this must be:

‘ A continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.’ The sequence must last no longer than one minute.

This task should demonstrate:

  • Match on Action
  • Shot/Reverse Shot
  • The 180 degree Rule

All filming and editing must take place on Haywards Heath College campus. You will record your learning and processes on a group blog, which you will continue into the Main Task (the opening of thriller film).

deadline: 21st Jan 2012
